Mazi Nnamdi Kanu |
The moonlight is full, the dark skies still have sprinkles of stars light-years away scattered all across the milky- way like an artist's beautiful brush splash painting. The world seems peaceful and quiet, but not the minds of evil people. For in the shadows of their thoughts, a loud voice echoes. The words from the voice are sharp like a double-edged sword piercing through a buttery heart saying, "I have come to deliver the message given to me by God. I have not come to massage anybody's stupidity". Meanwhile, the wicked ones have said in their hearts, "How arrogant!" It feels like being struck with a lightning bolt. How could it be? Why him? Why not me? Petty envy and jealousy creeps in leaving no room for sound reasoning.
Individualism takes over instead of patriotism and statesmanship. Selfishness crowns their stupidity. Oh, what a royalty. But just like King Herọd of the old, the thoughts of taking the life of the anointed one begin to get fancy. A poor innocent man. Poor Nnamdị̀ Kanụ. Some people call him a savior. Some say he's a prophet. While to some, he's a leader. But to very few kinds, he's a rare gem. The most valuable treasure of all. He's everything in one. He's all the prayers they've ever said answered in one go. Oh, the praises. It never got into his head but that of the wicked ones'.
First, what is a treasure? A treasure is a collection of valuable things; accumulated wealth; a stock of money, jewels, etc, or anything greatly valued. And with that being said, we can evaluate the gravity of what Mazị Nnamdị̀ Kanụ wants and stands for.
FREEDOM: The most important thing in the world. So important that it is enshrined in the United Nations charter as signed by all of its member states including Nigeria. Whereby, freedom is the state of being free, of not being imprisoned or enslaved. So, I don't think this is too much to ask for.
EQUAL RIGHTS AND OPPORTUNITY: Equal opportunity is a state of fairness in which individuals are treated similarly, unhampered by artificial barriers, prejudices, or preferences, except when particular distinctions can be explicitly justified. Where equal right is in play, a person can have access to justice and fairness which does not exist in Nigeria.
DEVELOPMENT: This is an event constituting a new stage in a changing situation. For example, changing the situation of the old Eastern region of Nigeria to at least match up with the rest of the country in terms of physical state and social amenities.
ECONOMIC STABILITY: Economic stability is the absence of excessive fluctuations in the macroeconomy. Whereby, Nigeria has everything needed to make her economy stable but because of obvious reasons, she has chosen to shut down factories and industries in the old Eastern region and monopolize every sector and industry. No economy thrives in such harsh conditions.
SECURITY: This is the state of being free from danger or threat. But in Nigeria, there has never been a time when the people are free from danger or threat, especially the Biafra people. There have always been killings after killings. Nigeria has wasted more lives than the total population of Luxembourg, Austria, and Liechtenstein combined.
Knowing all these for a fact and wanting every constituent nation to be free, Nnamdị̀ Kanụ called for the powers that be to announce a date for a United Nations supervised Referendum so that the people can decide if they still want to be a part of the Nigerian State or not. But no. The evil ones woke from the dead. All hell was let loose. They connived with their enemies just to bring down their brother who is asking even for their freedom and that of their generations unborn. They taught the pythons how to dance in our streets and even bought new toothpaste for the crocodiles so they can smile on the streets of our coastal regions. Kill, pillage, destroy, and main their people wearing their enemies as hand gloves or rather, their enemies wearing them as hand gloves. They made fake friendships with their enemies only to feed their wickedness fat.
But sadly enough, Mazi Nnamdị̀ Kanụ only made very simple demands of which none on the list was for himself. It was all for the people. For the poor defenseless ones who couldn't speak for themselves. A lot of people saw him as a priceless treasure but to a lot of others, he's nothing to be treasured. His establishment and his accomplishments should be hijacked. Petty envy and jealousy. They attack the structure he had put in place to save his people in his absence from every angle. All they hunger for is to terminate him. Fugitive they call him. An innocent prisoner. They dig themselves into a very thorny grave without knowing. But soon, very very soon, they will regret the day they lost their priceless treasure.
